In this month’s Vogue Italia, Steven Meisel and Pat Mcgrath parody plastic surgery mania.

The ‘Makeover Madness’ shoot, featuring the orginal supermodel Linda Evangelista, fetishises surgery for vanity with shots of models bruised and bloodied. There will the usual cries of misogyny (the shoot veers nicely into Helmut Newton territory) but if so, they are misplaced. This shoot questions our need to mutilate ourselves for the sake of a prescribed beauty myth: a straight nose, pouting lips, an unlined face.

It’s also a great bit of surgical porno — if you like that kind of thing.
