Fashion house produces animated short

To advertise its Spring/Summer 08 collection, the fashion house has produced a short film. In it, a blank-eyed nymph both models and interacts with the product: a couple of scuttling crabs become shoes and a fish transmogrifies into a handbag. Further blurring the lines between advertising and product, the illustrator behind the short – James Jean – has also worked on Prada prints and bags for this season, as well producing the backdrop for catwalk shows and in-store decoration.

And whilst we have absolutely NO IDEA what the film means, it sure beats the usual grumpy-looking models staring out from the pages of Vogue.

This season in fashionland everything’s gone shiny.

prada very wee.jpgAccording to Pop Magazine, shiny is it this season (good news for us). Here’s a nice story about shinyness from the mag:

Marc Jacobs tells a wonderful story about a friend of his who, whenever she is asked to name her favourite colour, will always reply: ‘Shiny!’

While we’re on one of our favourite subjects, we are very loving Prada this season. Fantastic shiny shoes. Check. Sexy wrinkly socks. Check. Fab vintage-style luggage. Check. Lots of fashion loucheness. Check. Persian cat in the ads. Check.

There has been a glut of grown up women in fashion campaigns recently but Prada has gone one louder by using 51 year old Kim Basinger to front a campaign.

basinger.jpgPrada’s diffusion line Miu Miu has traditionally used young starlets in its campaigns (such as Maggie Gyllenhaal and Chloe Sevigny) but Miuccia Prada, ever the fashion barometer, has identified a new maturity for the brand this season. And she’s not the only one cashing in on the allure of the older model: Marc Jacobs is currently featuring 1980s supermodel Kristen McMenamy whilst Demi Moore and Madonna for Versace are both pushing a well-botoxed 50.

Thanks to my dad for the cutting.
