A tabletop is turned into a tiny theatre by projecting 3D figures onto it.
M@terials, developed by Jitsuro Mase, use an off-the-shelf LCD projector to a ‘3D theatre’ on a table. A video clip is available on the Digital Stadium website.
On the table top are transparent plastic strips standing diagonally at 45 degrees. The plastic strips make images stand up. The virtual people can be projected on to a strip closer to you or the ones further away from you.
There’s no particular reason this couldn’t be scaled up to life-size or beyond…
