Arts Council funding to be cut by 35% to pay for the 2012 Olympics in London.
As of Sunday April 1st, the Arts Council’s Grants for the Arts scheme will suffer a whopping 35% cut. This means that during the funding year 2007/2008, only £54m will be awarded, down from £83m in the current financial year. Thanks for making your readers aware of this BigShinyThing - and given the slashing being experienced across London by established and emerging arts organizations, it is an issue that merits further exploration - I hope you will continue with dialogue about the impact the Olympics is having on the arts community of London. Art is more than just beauty in the eye of the beholder, it is commercial, it is good for London’s economy.
